FASD ONE PSA’s for FASD Prevention

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Ontario Network of Expertise (FASD ONE) proudly announces the release of 4 public service announcements dedicated to preventing Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.

Ontario Senior Caregiver action Network for FASD (OSCAN)

In 2021, Ottawa FASD advocates Nancy Lockwood, Elspeth Ross, and Barbara Sabourin launched a provincial support group for senior caregivers of adults with FASD, after recognizing that their needs were largely unmet by existing services. Funded through Health Nexus, Nancy Lockwood and Angela Geddes aimed to reduce caregiver stress, foster peer support, and assist with lifetime planning. Monthly sessions built strong connections and resulted in a shared resource guide. The group calls on governments and agencies to invest in supports for adults with FASD and their aging caregivers, recognizing this as a pressing health equity issue.

Supporting your child with FASD: a workshop for Indigenous communities

FASD workers Eric Marier, Randy White/ Kebeyaawsung, Chrysta Wood, Kim Stewart, Cereena Rows and Liane Guenette present information about the ten brain domains that may be affected by FASD. This event features content relevant to the broader indigenous community of Ontario.

Prenatal alcohol exposure and health at midlife: Self-reported health outcomes in two cohorts

The Developmental Origins of Health and Disease Hypothesis (DOHaD) suggests prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) should have implications for adult physical and mental health. Since the health profile of older adults with PAE and diagnoses of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) is unknown, the current study evaluates self-reported health problems of midlife adults with and without a history of PAE to describe these outcomes.

Sensory Processing and FASD

Even though families and individuals with FASD often talk about sensory differences, researchers haven’t studied them much, especially across the lifespan. CanFASD wrote an issue paper to summarize what we do know about sensory issues in people with FASD and what still needs more research.
